Mental Wellness

If you have concerns regarding your child, please contact LHS school psychologist Anna Davis Brown or any of the other LHS counselors.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) initiated a program to promote the use of a text messaging tool for students and parents who need help with mental health, depression, or thoughts of suicide. Professionally trained counselors from CrisisLink (www.crisislink.org)

will monitor the text messages and respond to them.  The responses are confidential, safe, and non-judgmental. (The FCPS Mobile App is available as a free download from the Apple App Store & Google Play.)

Service Learning

Service learning is a teaching method that involves students in authentic and meaningful service to their communities and that provides time for reflection on the service experience and the demonstration of the skills and knowledge acquired. FCPS documents the successful completion for students in grades 6, 8, and 12. Click here for FCPS' Service Learning Overview.

Students who earn 10 hours per year for a total of 40 hours of Service Learning may achieve at graduation the Service Learning Recognition Cord.  Students who earn 50+ hours may achieve the Virginia Board of Education Diploma Seal for excellence in Civics Education.

Recording Volunteer Hours Using x2VOL

Taking a giant step forward in making it easier to keep track of volunteer hours, x2VOL is the tool FCPS middle and high schools use to support students with finding, tracking, and verifying service hours electronically. Click here to learn how your student can sign up.

FCPS Lunch Menus? There's an App for That!
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) now offers interactive school breakfast and lunch menus via the FCPS mobile app (Android or Apple) and the FCPS website. Widgets connect customers to ingredient lists, allergen information, and resources and services provided by the FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services. The website also features a link to MySchoolBucks.com, making it easy to add money to a student’s lunch account or check students’ school meal selections. Download the FCPS mobile app to your smart phone (Apple or Android) for free, and see what new, healthy menu items are available to students.

USDA Smart Snacks Initiative
The Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 directed the USDA to establish nutrition standards for all foods and beverages sold to students in school during the school day.  Read more about healthy snacks that can be sold to students during the school day with these links.

Fairfax County Youth Survey Results

Would you like a glimpse inside the mind of a Fairfax County teen? Or better yet, into the minds of our LHS students? What are the current trends in substance use, teen depression, sexual activity, and cultural harassment? The results from the Fairfax County Youth Survey were presented at the November PTSA General Membership Meeting.  The LHS Student Services Department gave a detailed and informative presentation. If you missed the meeting or would like to review the information again, the details are available below.
